Their trip had been, so far, filled with some of the best days of her life. Words couldn’t describe how happy Avery Ford was, how complete and whole and simply fulfilled, and she had only one person to thank. Gabriel de Luca had become a constant presence in her life the past month – the first thing she saw when she woke up, and the last thing she saw when she fell asleep. He was always on her mind, and Avery felt thoroughly intoxicated. It was the best type of drug, one she could never dream of breaking the addiction from. More than her being happy, though, was the fact that she knew he was happy. He smiled more often, and he had relaxed into the life that Avery and her parents had offered him. He seemed less restless and, what warmed her heart the most ,was the fact that it seemed like he was healing. She felt so honored, thinking that she was part of that process, warming her from the inside out. Their time together was constant – whether it was in school or at home, they were always found together. People started applying names to them, words like couple and boyfriend and girlfriend. She wasn’t sure if that was exactly what they were, because for some reason, both of those felt too petty to apply to what she and Gabriel had. Maybe she was just humoring herself, but the way they were… it seemed deeper than just boyfriend and girlfriend.
Soon enough, Avery started searching for ways to make him loosen up even more. He’d never had a chance to just be an average teenage boy – Avery didn’t want him to miss out any more, so she started leaking random moments of spontaneity into his life. This trip was only one of them. After she’d cleared it with her parents, she’d packed both of their things and had stolen Gabriel away. It honestly was one of the best moves she’d ever made in regards to their relationship. He seemed so happy, being with her, going wherever they wanted to go with no strings attached. They’d slept countless nights under the stars, wrapped up in each other, just allowed to be them. They didn’t have to fake or hide anything, and it gave her the strangest lighthearted feeling, to be so free. That particular day, they’d spent in a comfortable seaside town, going through different shops at their own pace, hands softly intertwined, skin whispering their own stories as the hours dwindled away and the sky grew darker. After having a picnic on the beach, they had headed back to the car to find a place to rest for the night. The air was cool, but not too cold, so they opted for finding the perfect place to sleep outside – it wasn’t often that you were able to see the sky at night, without fog, so close to the ocean. After driving around for almost an hour, Avery finally saw it.
They pulled over, onto the side of the road, and quickly grabbed their blankets and pillows, before crossing the street to the grassy knoll, parking themselves right in the middle of it. After setting up their blankets, they laid down, curling into each other. They kissed the time away for while, until their breathing was fast and their heartbeats were accelerated. Avery pulled away, pressing a playful kiss to his nose with a giggle, and laid her head against his shoulder, gazing up at the stars in the sky. She didn’t know how much time elapsed in silence, but soon she realized that Gabe’s breathing was even and deep. She didn’t move her head from his shoulder, instead she simply assumed that he was asleep. She bit her lip, her mind racing as she stared up at the stars. There were so many things that she wanted to say, things that she was afraid to tell him while he was awake. It wasn’t that she was afraid he didn’t reciprocate the feeling. It was more that she was afraid he wasn’t ready to hear it from her, even though it must have been already so obvious in her actions. Biting her lip, she exhaled a breath, her hand moving to rest gently over his slow beating heart. ”I love you, Gabe.” She whispered, closing her eyes and letting the crash of the waves swallow the unheard words.

Gabriel’s initial reaction to Avery’s “surprise” was one of cold fear. She told him that his bags were packed and ready, and that she should meet him outside at the car. To him, that meant only one thing – he and Isabella were no longer welcome in the Ford household. He figured the day was coming, but he anticipated it with dread; in his mind, there was no way that anyone would want to keep him for very long. He was lucky enough that they had given him an entire month at their house, and he cherished each and every day. There was good food, a shelter over his head, and time to sit and play with Isa and listen to her giggle, because she was happy. His heart, under the careful healing of Avery herself, was beginning to re-assemble itself in his chest, and he was feeling as whole as he ever had. At the end of every wonderfully new, strange day, he could lay his head down next to hers and wrap his arms around her, and it felt as though in those moments that they were invincible. Of course it was going to come to an end – his life had never resembled a fairytale, so why should this particularly good thing last? Although Avery had been a bit too giggly and energetic to deliver bad news, he took it in stride and nodded his consent. His footsteps were heavy as he went upstairs, gathered his bags, and met her outside as she’d told him to do. Before he exited the doorway, he took one good, long look at the home that he’d begun to cherish as if it were his own. He didn’t think to grab Isa, or any of her things, but then it occurred to him that he hadn’t been told to do so. Now, the poor boy was just confused. Brow furrowed, he approached Avery and placed the bags in the trunk warily. It was then that she told him they were taking a spontaneous road trip, and he blinked incredulously. A thousand questions rose up in him, but she quelled them with a sweet kiss and he simply got into the car besides her, finished with his doubts. She would never leave him down a bad path, and he was confident. He was surprised at how easy it was to get into the car, considering all the bad memories he associated with similar scenarios, but he bit his lip and hid his hands as best as she could so she couldn’t see them shaking.
There was no doubt in his mind that he loved her. No matter what people thought they were, they were so much more than the feeble human language could describe. There was no word, no adjective for what he felt. Gabriel knew one thing for sure – she was his one and only exception to every rule he’d ever made for himself. He swore he’d never fall in love, after he saw his mother break his father’s heart, after he watched his father attempt to put the broken pieces back together. He promised he’d never get anyone near to him, after all the dirty things he’d done to make a living. Avery, however, had become the only exception to all of those things, and it surprised him every day. She was the reason that he was on his way to believing again, and he was forever grateful for that. Suddenly, life wasn’t so dark and hopeless after all. Every second of the road trip made him feel alive and free; while she drove, he stuck his head out the window and let the wind blow his curls around aimlessly – it was almost as if he was flying, something he’d been wishing for constantly. When he took the wheel, Avery would turn the radio on and sing him love songs, and it was all he could do to keep the goofy grin off his face and his eyes on the road in front of them. There were endless stretches of road before them, and with that came the possibilities he’d always wanted. This was just the thing he’d needed, more than anything else, and somehow she’d known. She always knew. He couldn’t think of a better person to trust his heart to, after all. All of his inhibitions melted away and he allowed himself to laugh, to act as if he were 18, unburdened by the darkest parts of the world. He was Gabe again, in the purest sense of it; he was returned to the young man he had been before all of his tragedy, and it became him. His chocolate eyes were bright, his crooked-grin more ready on his handsome face. Everything he did was sweeter, more confident, and it was all because of Avery. When he was with her, he felt like there was nothing else to life. It was all right there, when she was in his arms. They needed no map, no direction, because they were so tangled up in each other that they wouldn’t be able to see a path anyway. This wasn’t about where they were going, it was about who they were becoming along the way, and as far as he was concerned he was becoming the best version of himself that he could possibly be. Most of that was because of the other half of him, he decided; Avery was the missing piece, and now there was nothing for him to worry about anymore.
After a long day of wandering, they had a lovely picnic on the beach and enjoyed the weather and the waves. It was all so surreal to Gabe – someone like him wasn’t supposed to see so much beauty all the time, but somehow this was happening to him. He had to steal pinches to his own arm to make sure that he wasn’t dreaming, he was so awed by it all. He viewed everything with the eyes of a child, and his heart swelled with an indescribable joy. It was all he could do to keep his arms away from her, to keep his lips from kissing her all over her face – he never wanted to let her go. Night had fallen faster than they’d anticipated and they had tumbled onto a blanket that they’d laid out on a grassy hill overlooking the water and the sand. The steady pound of the surf in his ears was reassuring, slowing to match his heartbeat, and all he could see was the light of the moon reflected in Avery’s big brown eyes. If this wasn’t heaven, he didn’t know what was. They simply laid there intertwined, kissing each other as if the world would stop spinning if they pulled apart, and when they paused for breath the stars above him seemed as if they would shower down on them. Gabriel cradled her in the crook of his arm, wondering at how she fit there as if she were made to curve against him, and his eyes fluttered shut in attempt to savor the moment and slow his racing heart. Maybe he had dozed off, or maybe his thoughts had become too heavy for him to notice, but time had passed them and finally, he heard the exhale of Avery’s breath against his chest. ”I love you, Gabe,” she whispered, and it felt as though his heart would stop completely. Love, she had said. His eyes opened slowly and he took a deep breath, the sea air bracing. Love, the stars above him echoed brightly. Love, the ocean repeated, in a poetically rhythmic manner against the shore. Gabriel was immobilized by the force of it all, but after a few moments he bent his head down to kiss her hair. Instead of saying anything, he propped himself up on one elbow so he was facing her on his side, bringing her face close enough so that he could kiss her again. This kiss was different than the others; it was slow, full of passion and an aching fire that he couldn’t place. “I love you too,” he said breathlessly, recklessly. The intensity set his eyes on fire and he looked at her as if he’d never wanted another thing more in his life.

When her parents had heard about Gabriel’s problem, they had immediately dropped anything to do whatever they could to help. They were just like that – they always put other people’s interests ahead of their own, and more people were needed like that in the world. That county was a better place because of the unconditional love shed over it by the Ford family. They’d live in that town for God knows how long, generation after generation. If there was one thing Avery loved more than anything, it was Friday nights when their huge family would get together, from the county and from surrounding counties, and they’d sit have a huge potluck and talk about old family stories. There were some that Avery would never get tired of, but if she had to pick, she was a definite fan of the romances. The first Friday with Gabriel in the household had been a hectic one. Avery had been a little nervous for Gabe, wondering if he would like the rest of her family or if he’d be alienated by so many people. However, he’d taken it with his head held high and over all, it seemed like he had gotten along insanely well with all of her family members. They were all different types of people, but one thing tied them all together – their sense of unconditional forgiveness and selflessness. After the initial rough hour of meet and greets, it seemed as though Gabriel was almost comfortable, and Avery couldn’t have been happier. As a matter of fact, that was just the way it seemed overall. It took him a little bit to get over the initial shock of living such a new life, but it seemed like he’d relaxed into it fairly well. However, it almost seemed as though he was waiting for something. Waiting for something to happen, and she could only sit and wonder what exactly he was waiting for.
If she had known he was waiting for the day to come that she would be tired of him, that her family would want him out of their house, she would have told him he was wasting his breath worrying about it, because that day would never come. Her parents love Gabriel – that much was obvious. They treated him as though he were their own son, and Avery felt happy for it. He fit into their everyday life perfectly, and even more snugly into their hearts. She remembered when she pulled her mother aside to talk to her about this trip, the way her mother had looked at her in a peculiar fashion before asking quietly, ”You love him, don’t you?” She looked at her mother, slightly startled, but then relaxed into an easy and open smile, ”Yes, I do.” She had replied, her tone heavy with confidence. Her mother had just smiled, and shook her head – it was her approval, and Avery couldn’t help but be floating on cloud nine for the time afterwards. As if it wasn’t obvious to her mother already how they felt about each other – they spent each moment of the day practically attached at the hip, always touching, if it were possible, as if they couldn’t bear to be too far apart from the other. Avery hadn’t realized that her entire life she’d been searching – but when Gabriel and her were together, without a care in the world like they were now, everything slid into place for her. He showed her exactly what she was looking for, and things had never felt more right when he was in her arms, their sighs in tune, their heartbeats synchronized. She wasn’t sure at all how in the world things got to be so perfect between them, especially in the light of everything that had happened to Gabriel, but one thing she knew for sure was that she wasn’t going to, not for one second, complain.
Words couldn’t describe how it felt to be so close to him, his arms wrapped around her so protectively and their kisses sweet and unhurried. It was like they had forever, and just for that moment, they did. Wherever they wanted to go, whatever they wanted to do – it was all in their reach, all they had to do was reach out and grasp it. Who knew how far they would be able to go together? It seemed like with Gabriel by her side, she was invincible and ready to face anything and everything that was thrown at her. She only hoped she lended him the same strength. Curled up against his side, the cool breeze not affecting her when pitted against his warmth, she felt comfortable and at home. She hoped this feeling never went away. Once she spoke those words and lost them to the wind, she closed her eyes, trying to let herself drift off to sleep. It was then she felt him move, to kiss her hair. Her breath caught in her chest – had he heard her? Impossible, he couldn’t have… he had been asleep! Or maybe that was just what she thought. When he began to move, her heart started bumping erratically. She’d said it at the wrong time. It was too much, too soon, and she was going to lose him. She tried to keep the desperate fear from her face when he looked at her, but soon all the fear was erased as his lips met hers for a kiss. It was unlike any kiss they’d ever shared, unlike any kiss she’d ever shared with anyone. Her heart was still pounding in her chest, the blood rushing through her ears, her body reacting so loudly to his lips moving so passionately against hers that she was sure he’d be able to tell. Avery leaned back, breathing heavily, dizzy from the kiss, gazing into his eyes, her anchor the earth. Then, those four words hit her. The most breathtaking smile broke out across her face. He loved her, too. He said it back. Oh Gabriel, her Gabriel. He loved her. Avery leaned forward, their noses bumping as she captured his lips again in another fiery kiss, this time pouring every single emotion she felt towards him into the slow movement between them, her hands lacing up to run softly through his curls, then pull him closer to her. This kiss was like the last; it had an air of unpredictability about it, and it bled recklessness into her veins. Her fingers curled in his shirt and she pulled him closer, before pushing forward, so he was on his back. Her body positioned on top of him just slightly, her fingers softly curled back into his hair and she pulled back from the kiss, making it more shallow. Her lips brushed his, once, twice – both times tender and loving. Then her lips roamed to his jaw, pressing gentle kisses there. Finally, she pulled back, kissing her way up to his ear, before breathing softly once more. ”I love you.” It seemed as though the words would not stop falling out of her mouth.

It was different, to feel wanted again. There had been a time in his life when he’d felt as though he mattered to someone, to his father and his gracious stepmother. Maybe he would always matter to Isabella, but she was too young to even fully know what was going on. In the time that he’d been on his own, he figured that he’d degraded himself so much every night that no one would ever want him again. The only thing he was good for, in his opinion, was giving others sexual gratification for money. He didn’t want that to be the case, but that was certainly what he thought. When he was with Avery, she made him feel like he had some worth. Friday nights had become something to look forward to, as opposed to something to make him afraid. Sure, he was timid and quiet at first, but he did warm up over time. Her family was very accommodating, and they all seemed genuinely interested in him. They didn’t even have to say anything for him to know that he was welcome, and it was almost too good to be true. They asked him where hew as from, what he wanted to do with his life, and he didn’t have too much difficulty being honest with them. He was from around this area, and he was doing alright. All he’d ever wanted was to travel the world and make music that people loved, because no matter how many of his other dreams had died, that one refused to leave him and instead burned hotly at the bottom of his chest. Maybe one day, if he was lucky, he would have his shot; for now, it was enough to be in the Ford’s house, enjoying well-cooked meals and feeling as though he had the semblance of a family that wanted him to stay there. He was beyond relieved when he found out that Avery’s surprise for him did not involve him being unceremoniously evicted, but instead traveling the country with her. Every day was a new adventure, and he honestly never wanted it to end. There were so many things to taste and smell and see, and having her by his side only made it sweeter. The more time he spent with her, the more Gabriel de Luca was absolutely convinced that they were made for each other. How else could he explain the calm that he felt when her tiny fingers were laced with his? He had been afraid of love before, but he couldn’t imagine why; it was transforming him, making him see life in different colors, and it was making him stronger. The only reason he hadn’t given in to it before was the fear of being broken again, that someone would come in and spin him pretty little lies so they could use him again. Wasn’t that all he was good for, being used?
No, he couldn’t believe that completely anymore. Even if it nagged at the back of his mind, a constant that he could never forget, it wasn’t very prevalent on this trip. Things were changing for Gabriel, but no matter how much the world shifted he would always have the best anchor to steady him, the only one he’d ever needed. Avery couldn’t possibly know how much he loved her, and he wished there was some way to show her; he felt as though the words and the sweet kisses were nowhere near enough. He had fallen headfirst for her, that was for sure, but there was always the cautious part of him that wanted him to take it slowly. What if things went wrong? What if he disappointed her in the end? It was already obvious to Gabe that she deserved much more than he could offer her, but she had made her choice to stay by his side. Her love, he realized, was more addicting than the heroin he’d stopped shooting into his veins. It filled his system completely, giving him the best high he’d ever had in his entire life. She made him feel like he could do anything, similar to the way that he’d felt when he was drugged up. He figured he would never even need the drug again, because she was making it so much easier. Heroin had been a way for him to cope, to blur out all of the very painful things in his day-to-day. Now that the hardest times were in his past, there would be no purpose of having it in his life. Avery’s love was his drug, and he couldn’t get enough of it. Whenever they were separated for even the shortest period of time, he felt as though he was suffering a withdrawal, but it was a good aching in his chest as opposed to a searing pain in his body. He would never get enough of her, and he couldn’t begin to imagine life without her. Maybe this love would be his downfall, because he would be completely lost the minute she left; there was no doubt in his mind that she would, somehow, because nobody that he loved ever stayed. Gabriel was still surrounded by such a sorrow, because he couldn’t change the way that he thought about things. The world was a dark place, and he was happy to have the illumination that Avery provided for him, but it was going to have to come to an end, he was sure. For now, he was doing his best to enjoy every second that he had with her on this amazing trip, because he felt as though it was a once in a lifetime chance. Every smile, every dance they shared, he studied it as though is life depended on it and committed it to his memory for a rainy day – there were sure to be storms on his horizon.
There on that perfect outcrop, with the stars twinkling down on them and the moon casting a pale light on their skin, it was all so surreal. Nothing existed to Gabriel, besides Avery. His eyes were hungry for her, his lips couldn’t get enough of her, and he was beginning to feel the deep stirrings at the pit of his stomach of something greater than just the two of them. Whatever they would do that night, lying there together, would change them forever, and he could somehow feel it. His response seemed to surprise her, just as much as her three words had shaken him, and he relaxed in the dizzy pleasure of it all. Her smile bubbled lightly in his veins like the sweetest of wines, and he attempted to move his lips to return the gesture but he couldn’t. His face was fixed in a fierce mask, his lips quirked in an expression of wanting, the most intense longing he could possibly convey. Gabe’s eyes squinted even more slightly, unconsciously, burning holes into hers for several long seconds, and his brows came in together without marring the smooth skin of his forehead. There weren’t any words for the electricity between them, and thankfully Avery brought him in for another passion-filled kiss. His lips moved with hers as if they were meant to and then she pushed him down against the carpet, her body moving to rest on top of him and her fingers in his hair. When they broke off, the expression on his face never changed; his eyes fluttered shut when her lips touched his own lightly, and then to his jaw. The trail to his ear felt as though it were on fire, but he was more than eager to let this flame consume him. Gabe reached up to brush her hair out of her face, his features still hard with something more than lust, and replied, “I love you.” It was the only thing he could find fitting to say, when she kept uttering those words, and it hung in the air between them. He kissed her again, this time his teeth grazing her lower lip slowly, and he gently maneuvered her so that he was almost entirely on top of her, his heartbeat doubling now. Maybe he’d once used his experience, but now he could use it for something else. Avery no doubt hadn’t done many physical things, but he’d had his fair share, more than any boy his age should ever have. Now, he could use it to make her feel good. He could use it to show her he loved her. “Let me show you,” he continued, as if the two sentences were strung together, his voice coarse with raw emotion. Gabe waited patiently for her consent, but in the meantime he dipped his head to kiss her delicate collarbone, leaving tiny, hot marks as he went. He met her eyes again, and the fire in his eyes hadn’t dimmed at all.

It was in everything they did. The way they’d always hold hands or stay connected, skin-to-skin, in some way. It was in the way they constantly stole glances at each other, lingering caresses or the soft whispering of skin in middle of the night. Every action they had towards each other simply screamed their love for each other, so why was it so hard for Avery to just come out and say it? Part of her, on some level that was totally ridiculous and couldn’t see what was obvious, told her that it was because he didn’t love her back. But she knew that wasn’t the case. Another part of her was afraid to say it too soon, afraid it would scare him away because it made things too permanent. Then there was a part of her who didn’t say it because she wasn’t ready, but she knew that it was. It wanted to fall from her lips every minute of every hour of every day, aching to be part of who she was, aching to be the running force behind the blood pumping through her veins. Avery Ford was Gabriel’s in ever y way, and she didn’t have to tell him she loved him for him to not know it. She tried to show it to him in every way she could. She would love him till the end, there was no doubt in her mind about it; it was looking good for her, too, that there was no end in sight.
Avery didn’t have Gabriel’s cynical outlook on their current situation in life – she didn’t see herself leaving or walking away from him, or her family abandoning him and his little sister. All she was hope on the horizon, staining their future with all the bright colors of opportunity and ambition. Especially on this trip, their futures didn’t seem so far away. All of this business about ‘what do you want tobe when you grow up’ – it was almost there. Grown up was staring them right in the faces, and now was their chance to make their mark. Gabriel didn’t know it, but he pushed Avery to new heights. He pushed her to be the best that she could be, all the time. Her dreams no longer seemed so far out of reach, and things just looked brighter. There was no longer a reason for her to not have a smile on her face, and she couldn’t help but be addicted to the feel. Avery would cling to these moments they shared together for the rest of her life. If things ever went wrong, they would be the first memories she’d turn to if she ever wanted to be happy again. The sweet, shared kisses they’d steal together, the way they’d dance when the only music they heard was in their heads. This was the highest point of her life to date, and she knew she’d never, ever be able to forget it.
Her friends were all confused at how they seemed to get so close over night. She didn’t bother explaining because she knew they just wouldn’t quite understand. It wasn’t normal to see someone so devoted to another at their age – she understood that, so she didn’t bother trying to push it onto people. They would realize and accept it in their own time, and besides, it didn’t matter when she was perfectly happy and she understood where they were at, and Gabriel did, too. She lived for turning those rosy lips upwards into a smile, absolutely lived for it. Yet another addiction centered around him. She hoped they never had to part for a concentrated amount of time; that was becoming one of her worst fears. She didn’t know how it would happen, but if she did, she knew she would not be happy and she would hurt. Avery didn’t want to her – she wanted this happiness to last forever, because they both deserved it – especially Gabriel. He deserved nothing but the best, she just wished that she wasn’t the only one who saw it that way.
The expression in his eyes burned her. It caused her blood to boil, her breath to catch in her throat, and her heart to pound erratically in her chest. Avery had never seen such a fiery and intense expression on his face, had never felt such urgency and edge to the kiss he planted on her soft skin. This spark between them raced like an unstoppable current through her veins. She never wanted the tingling feeling to stop, never wanted to let him go, never wanted this moment to end. It seemed like the earth had stopped turning, just for them, just for this moment. When his voice met her ears, soft, she knew that this moment was going to be huge. This moment was going to be… life altering, for both of them. His teeth grazing her lip caused her breath to catch dangerously in her throat, and when he moved his body on top of hers, her heart skipped a beat. This was something they never did. This was a line they never crossed, and never had she seen him so assertive. Dare she say it, it made her want him. It made her want him more than anything. Let me show you. He breathed, and she gazed into his eyes, before nodding her head and pulling his face back down to hers, kissing him deeply, her tongue lightly trace his lips. Her hands roamed down the hard planes of his torso, to the hem of his shirt. She slipped her hands under it, fingers grazing the skin just above the waistband of his jeans, before moving over his abs, further up his chest. She grew impatient with his shirt, which was only a hindrance to her, and tugged it over his hand, the moonlight illuminating his pale skin. Their lips brushed again, as his hands roamed her body, then moved to lift her own shirt above her head. Their eyes met for a split second before their lips crashed together once more – a bruising harmony that shook her core. She pressed up against him, skin against skin now, her breath leaving her completely as she moved to kiss his jaw, then his neck, wanting to give him all of her.

In this moment, nobody else mattered. It was as if they were the only two people on the world, and it felt beautiful and safe and new. Gabriel never wanted to forget it. How could he, he thought, when his breath tasted sweet and the earth rolled around them gentle, cradling the arches of their back away from the worst parts of the world? It was like a waking dream, and he would be loathe to leave it. Avery and he were connected in every single way; emotionally, mentally, and even physically, but they had never crossed the final boundary, or so he regarded it. Sex was not something to be taken lightly, and he knew that she believed that. She never talked about it, but he could tell that she was a virgin still and saving herself for that special someone. Gabe hoped fervently that it wasn’t him she had in mind. He was not worthy enough to have that great honor, and it was an honor. He had his own virginity taken from him a year ago, by a nameless men and women in succession. That had been a very long night for him, and he had probably never recovered from it; the scars were still there, even if they weren’t visible. While he would be nothing but soft and lingering with Avery, Gabriel had wanted her to experience her first time with someone more… pure, more on the same level with her. As far as he was concerned, he was several steps down below her in the scheme of things. To take her in that way would make her permanently his, the last bond that would tie them together without a doubt, but could he do it? The thought brought him a measure of fear, something that he usually quelled when it came to physical matters. It wasn’t about experience, because he had tragically gained plenty of that, but it was his love of her that made him guarded. Gabe was scared that he would ruin Avery, because if things went wrong somehow, he could never give her back what he could take in a few lusty moments. The future was suddenly a very unsteady horizon, and he didn’t know what to do next. He could almost feel the road stretching in front of them, at the same time he knew that Avery’s eyes were regarding him with such a deep expression of love.
He didn’t deserve this, he repeated in his mind, and the full force of it struck him breathless. Gabe almost cleared his throat to tell her no, to stop this before it was irreversible, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. His eyes were still molten brown, and he couldn’t turn off the fire coursing in his veins. All those other times when he had been in this same position, it had been rushed and crude and he hadn’t had a chance to think about what he was doing. He had purposefully numbed himself and blocked out most of the sounds and the sights, so he couldn’t remember any of the feeling. This time was so different – the air around them felt alive, and every little brush of their skin caused the longing to grow stronger in his body. The way she was looking at him now, when his eyes drilled into hers, seemed to brush away the majority of his doubts. Avery wanted him, just as badly as he had ever needed her, and her refused to be a disappointment to the one girl who mattered the most. His heartbeat quickened when their kisses grew deeper, and he saw the look of willingness when he shifted so his body was over her tiny frame. Gabe had never dared to be this bold with her, in all their time together, but it was coming more easily to him than he thought it would. Gabriel caught her nod, and the empathetic, caring young man that he was, he tried to imagine what it was like to be in her place. This was crossing into unchartered waters, and no doubt she secretly had her reservations. I know, he wanted to say, and it came through in the way he looked at her. In a gesture of comfort, he reached out to place one of her hands in his, their fingers clasping perfectly as if they had been crafted to rest that way. Trust me, that touch said, and he hoped that she could feel it. Gabriel gladly fell back into the kiss, unexpectedly moaning into her mouth when he felt her hands slip under his shirt, trailing his toned abdominal area; he had never shown any signs of pleasure before, instead forcing himself to be quiet in such heated moments. It was as if now, Avery was finding every single way to free him. He allowed her to pull his shirt off, no bad memories marring this for him, and he watched in awe when she removed her shirt. “You are so, so perfect,” he said breathlessly, kissing her smooth skin wherever his hot lips could reach, and finally coming back up to capture her mouth again in a very painfully sweet kiss. A chill ran down his spine when their skin brushed, without any obstacle of clothing, and when they broke apart Gabriel’s expression was one of purest love. That was all he’d ever had for her, and all he ever would have for her. He lowered his head to her neck and collarbone, kissing her with care as one of his hands slipped beneath her back and removed the last article of clothing from her top.
His lips traveled around her chest, making sure that he could give her as much of a good feeling as he could – if his “skills” couldn’t be put to use again, at least they were relevant now, in this place. Wordlessly, he kissed her again and they were moving together, and then they had both finally discarded every last piece of clothing that could keep them apart. Gabe paused, his heart sputtering erratically, and reached out with a hand to gently brush the skin of her face. “I love you,” he whispered tenderly, and then pushed forward to fully take her. His motion was very measured at first, and he bit his lip as he exerted a little more pressure; he had never done this before, not with a virgin, and he didn’t want to hurt her more than necessary. The entire time he was monitoring her face, ready to stop at the slightest exclamation or indication that it was too much for her to handle. Regret tugged hard on his heartstrings when he saw her eyes well with tears, but she only encouraged him, so he finally filled her all the way. When they were finally together, Gabriel’s breath came in ragged pants, stars seeming to burst in front of his eyes. He had never felt anything like this before; it was sensual, and full of so much passion that he thought he would be filled to the brim with it. “I love you,” he repeated once, twice, three times even, and then he began to rock in and out of her. Gabe’s pace quickened as they both grew comfortable, and then the only thing coursing through his body was pleasure. Soon, only her name fell from his lips, his fingers tangling in her dark hair and his lips bent over the bridge of her nose, holding her as close as possible when his deep eyes shut.

Avery had never, ever crossed this boundary before. She wasn’t one of those prude girls that avoided all contact from the opposite sex, but she did have standards and values. It was something she’d set into stone a long while ago, after she’d had her second boyfriend when she was a sophomore, that she wouldn’t have sex unless it was with someone she really truly loved. Her entire high school career, she never came along someone quite like the person she had thought she’d want to give it up to. It was a big thing – she didn’t want to trade it away in little tiny segments, she wanted it to be one big gift, no matter how cheesy or hokey that sounded. When she met Gabriel, she had just known there was something there. That maybe, just maybe, she might have found the one. But if you asked her to look into her future from that day, to where she was now – she would be completely shocked and where she was. She hadn’t hoped in her wildest dreams that a moment like this would transpire between them, and now that this moment was actually here… she could barely stomach it. The sky was sparkling bright above them, and it seemed like the stars were winking their approval as Gabriel kissed her. A soft smile turned up her lips as she kissed him, that fire in the pit of her stomach not abating in the least. But it seemed like the rest of the universe was whispering its approval with the soft breeze that caress their skin, with that charged energy in the cool, salty air.
The teen knew with more certainty than she had ever known in her entire life – he was the one. They were truly tired to each other in every way, and this was the final step. Avery was scared, but she was willing to jump. She knew that he would catch her – he always would. That was one thing she knew she’d never have to worry about anymore; she’d never be alone as long as Gabriel was in her life, that she knew for sure. He was going to be that one constant, that one thing she could always turn to. She felt comforted when his hand slid into hers, and he got that look on his face that said he understood. She took in a deep breath, their lips melding together once more as she surrendered herself completely the moment. Her hands on his skin made her mind frazzled, and her heart leaped into her throat as he moaned into her mouth. Every nerve in her body was alive and crackling, and the intensity of the moment, the lack of oxygen getting to her lungs because of their kisses, it was all far too much, yet at the same time, not enough. His words sent a shiver through her spine, and she shook her head, kissing him again. She wasn’t the perfect one, he was. Her breath left her in a gasp when his lips found her collarbone, and her head fell back to give him more room. When he removed her bra, she felt self-conscious for a split second, until she saw the way his eyes gazed at her, the way they gazed hungrily into hers, as though she was just the most perfect thing he’d ever seen. Her heart felt warmed.
She let out a moan when his mouth found her chest, the sound startling her and yet feeling so right all at once. After giving an appropriate amount of attention to her chest, leaving her breathless and aching way down deep, his lips found hers once more, and her slender fingers laced through his soft, coffee colored curls. When they separated to shed the rest of their clothing, she gazed evenly into his eyes, and tender expression in her own. ”I love you.” She returned, the words ringing true. Her breath left her when he pushed into her, slowly. When he met her barrier, she let out a low gasp, her eyes sliding shut against the pain. She opened them again as he began to slide past, the pain abating slowly, her eyes wet, but her lips turned upward into an encouraging smile. Her head fell back, and her back arched just barely when he was fully in her. A low sound left her lips, the sensation overwhelming – the feeling of him inside her was warm, exhilarating ; the nerves that were fizzling before were sparking brightly, and she felt small riding the rush of emotions and feelings that were coursing through her. He established his rhythm, and she whispered her love to him heavily in her ear, her hips moving to match his movement, to pull him deeper and deeper inside of her. She wanted all of him – all. Her arms circled around him, hands digging into his shoulders as his movements grew more deep, slower. She felt a glorious pressure building inside of her, and another soft moan left her lips as his name, her head swimming. She could feel him all around her, thickening the very air she was breathing. In that moment, it was only them in the entire world.
She came to her climax not long after, the pressure inside her bursting and causing each nerve in her body to short circuit as she shuddered and tightened around him, the look of utmost bliss on her face, eyes sliding closed as she rode the wave of pleasure to it’s very end. He came soon after, and Avery pressed her damp body close to his, her breath coming out in a pant. She felt so wonderfully loose and free, as they paused, struggling to catch their breath. He pulled out of her, and she laid her head back against the ground as he rolled off of her, to the side. Using all the energy left in her, she rolled over to him, curling into his body, their legs twining together. Her hand rested over his heart, and after a long moment, she opened her warm, melted chocolate eyes, ”I love you.” She whispered, and realized she had never meant the words more. She was his now, just as he was hers, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Avery leaned forward, to press her lips tenderly to his. The kiss was so sweet it made her heart ache, and it was nothing short of perfect. She laid her head against his shoulder, and they laid like that for a while. She didn’t know how long, and she didn’t care. She was too busy dwelling in this warm and perfect moment, this glorious aftermath. After what seemed like a thousand forevers, she finally stirred, gazing up into his face. ”Are you asleep?” She asked gently, gazing at that beautiful face of his. After receiving a response, she sat up, the blanket falling from her upper half to her waist. However, she was no longer self conscious – not when he was the one looking at her.
Avery crawled to her feet, enjoying the sore feeling she had because it was more than worth it, and reaching down to pull him up, giggling, ”Let’s go for a swim.” She said playfully, pulling him after her as they walked down the knoll and onto the sandy beach. The cool ocean air blew through her hair, and she squeezed his fingers gently, the moonlight illuminating her features as she gave him a gentle, loving smile. The waves lapped at their feet, and she stood there for a moment ,taking a deep breath, before looking at him with a playful grin on her face, ”Ready?” She let go of his hand, and went plunging into the waves, fearless. Her hands tossed up to the sky, she twirled around, laughing. She gave a squeal when she felt his arms wrap around her waist, and she fell into another fit of giggles. This was perfect. This was how life was supposed to be, together.
